This is literally so fucking funny

It is so sad to me that this has yet to become an expression. Trying to find anything good about the Trump administration? Chasing Dorothy. Searching for depth in the Blade Runner? Looking for Dorothy. Finding fault in my best friend? You’re looking for Dorothy, love.

Self-Justifying Cognition

Sometimes, thoughts and emotions make themselves feel right.

They may be correct, but the problem is that they make us think they are regardless of if they actually are.

Most emotions are self-justifying. The question of “should I be feeling angry” is almost always intuitively a “yes!” while the anger is active, because anger keeps vivid in the mind the (perceived) obvious wrong that caused it.

Self-justifying has the cognetic function of keeping cognition active long enough to act on it, so it is useful for motivation and doing.

But it makes for unsound reasoning, so it is harmful for thinking and deciding.

Hi, local Japanese person here to give a reminder this is NOT BUDDHA.

The deity depicted in this statue is actually one of the Seven Lucky Gods, or Shichi Fukujin. (Read about them here, and here)

His name is Hotei, the God of Happiness and Abundance! A jolly fellow who is said to grant happiness and luck if you rub his belly.

So yeah, not Buddha. Still great though!

Reblogging for the correct information!

Thanks for correcting this. My parents always told me this statue was called laughing Buddha, but it just didn’t sit with me, but 7 year old me didn’t really know what to type in the computer back then…

We also need to stop saying she’s “free”. She isn’t. She still has 10yrs probation, mandatory community service hours, and requirements for maintaining a job in order to remain unincarcerated. She’s been released from a physical prison only to enter the open air prison so many people in the carceral state are confined to.

This shouldn’t be over. She should be fully pardoned. It’s unconscionable that they can choose to incarcerate her again for any minor infractions they deem in violation of her probation. This release shouldn’t be conditional, and right now it is.

if i reblog a terf, its an accident and i want to know so i can delete the post

for cis people who may not know what to look for, check for these things in someone’s bio:

  • gender critical
  • radfem (although not always a 100% qualifier, it usually does lead to trans exclusionary discourse)
  • “Detransitioned female”
  • A huge obsession with genitals, including reducing other cis women to their vaginas
  • If they have “TERF” anywhere in their bio or their blog and it isn’t ironic, be cautious
  • Saying things like “TERF is a slur!”
  • If they have a lot of content where they call trans women “dysphoric men” or “male to trans,” get outta there
  • If they keep pushing the narrative that “TERF” is synonymous with “lesbian” (it’s not), or that trans women are trying to force cis women to have sex with them (we’re not)
  • “Natal Women”

And that’s just what I can think of off the top of my head from all of my numerous experiences with these people

YouTube’s algorithm…I mean yes this is about flat-earthers, and we all like to laugh about them, but something has to be said about the fact that conspiracy theories are spread so easily to impressionable youth at a GLOBAL scale. And its not just flat-earthers, it’s Naziism, it’s anti-Semitism, islamophobia, it’s all the terrible radicalization that is happening. It’s all connected, and it’s so so easy to become radicalized because of YouTubes algorithm.

They do this for just about anything, too. Even if you watch overtly left-wing videos they will recommend hard-right video and conspiracy theorists to you. I got a white supremacist creator recommended to me from watching a Bernie Sanders interview.

They run hard-right ads over Left-wing creators now, too. Over a Majority Report video I got an ad for an “anti-PC,” pro-Trump news network. LGBTQ creators I watch are consistently getting gay conversion therapy ads played over them.

The Right loves to scream censorship when they get warning for using racial slurs or demonitized for pushing conspiracy theories, but the Left get hits just as hard if not harder on social media.

This happens even in videos where the title and subject matter do not make it immediately obvious. Watch any videos about video games? Prepare to be recommended videos that start on somewhat valid video game criticism and somewhere in the middle slide right into “GAMES ARE BEING RUINED AND IT’S ALL THE FAULT OF FEMINISM AND THE ESS JAY DOUBLE YEWS!” Nazis are going hard for that demographic and the shit is everywhere.
